2 The Best Ways to Establish Early Fasting with Hilal Viewing Method

Soon the month of Ramadan will arrive. But the problem often comes related to the determination of the beginning of the month which makes several groups of people different in the initial determination of fasting. Basically there are several ways to determine the beginning of the month in Islam, namely by seeing the new moon or by completing the month to 30 days, but some scholars argue that the determination of the beginning of the month must be done carefully through direct observation of the new moon.
The Hilal Method for Establishing the Beginning of Ramadan
In terms of language, Hilal means the beginning of the month. Where the moon around the earth is 29-30 days with a phase consisting of a crescent moon, a half month, a full moon and a dead month, and what is meant by the hilal here is the crescent moon used to determine the beginning of the hijri month. However, by the people of Indonesia, they are more familiar with this term to determine the beginning of the month of Ramadan and Shawwal where this is done to ensure the beginning and end of the previous fast which has been calculated through the method of reckoning.
Determining the beginning of Ramadan by using Hilal has a strong foundation seen from several Shohih Hadiths and the Word of God contained in the Holy Qur'an. There are 2 criteria used to determine the beginning of fasting with the hilal method namely Hilatul Hilal and Wujudul Hilal. What's the difference between the two? And how do you set it?
Rukyatul Hilal
In the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, which reads: "You fast because you see the new moon and make peace because you see the new moon. If it is blocked, it will be 30 days" used by the government to determine the beginning and end of Ramadan. Rukyatul Hilal is a way of determining the beginning of the month in the Hijri calendar by making merukyat or making a direct observation whether the crescent moon has been seen or not yet seen. In Indonesia alone there are several places that are used to see Hilal for further discussion until reaching a joint decision regarding the initial determination of the month of Ramadan considering that the sighting of the new moon is not always the same in various regions.
Wujudul Hilal
In contrast to Rukyatul Hilan, Wujudul Hilal is carried out using two principles, ijtima or conjunction that occur before sunset and the moon sets after sunset which states that the beginning of the month of Ramadan has arrived without seeing the angle of the moon at sunset. The method of the hilal method is indeed not widely used. In general, this method is only used by some Muslims and is less familiar to ordinary people because it is not widely used. And now the way of wujudul hilal is only used as a basis for the initial determination of the month the Hijri has entered or not.
Those are the two ways in the Hilal method that can be used to determine the beginning of Ramadan. So which method is used by the Indonesian government to determine the beginning of the fasting month? In contrast to most other countries, Indonesia has a different initial method of determining Ramadan known as Imkanur Rukyat based on the deliberations of the Religious Ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. To determine the beginning of this month there are two criteria adopted, namely:
• At sunset, the moon's altitude is a minimum of 2 ° above the horizon with a minimum curvature of the moon and sun of 3 °
• At the time of sunset, a minimum age of 8 hours is calculated from ijtima.
There are 3 criteria determined in considering the sight of the new moon based on the angle of the moon in Indonesia, namely:
